The Gordon Parks Foundation Fellowships are awarded annually to two photographers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians to support the development of new or ongoing projects that explore themes of representation and social justice in historical dialogue with Parks’ creative work and vision. Guadalupe Rosales and conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas received the 2019 fellowship award. Previous fellows include multidisciplinary artist Derrick Adams, photographer Devin Allen, journalist, photographer, and filmmaker Harriet Dedman, and photo-based artist Deana Lawson. During the fellowship period, fellows are awarded $20,000 to support their projects. They serve as ambassadors on behalf of the Foundation and promote the legacy of Gordon Parks, including participation in a wide range of Foundation initiatives and programs throughout the year, including a solo exhibition at the Foundation’s space in Pleasantville, New York, and contribution of an artwork to the Foundation’s permanent collection.
